As I do anymore, I decided to check the Japanese Nintendo Switch eshop and see if there was a new demo to download. And I found a demo called Happy Birthdays right away. I knew it was a simulation game and that NIS America is going to bring it to the United States this year. I thought it would be an interesting download, even if it was all in Japanese. Then I actually played it on my United States profile…

Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom Review
Japanese Roll Playing Games go with PlayStation like butter on bread, but not all JRPG experiences are the same, in terms of storyline, game mechanics, or overall quality. In 2018 - and when compared to what was released in 2017 - I firmly believe that Ni No Kuni 2 rises to the top, as one of the premier JRPG titles currently available on the PS4. While there are some questions around the games overall difficulty, and perhaps lack of variety at times, the overall package works really well, and is definitely a worthwhile purchase!

Most of the time I talk about video games in this column, but today I wanted to change things up a little. Ready Player One is an upcoming motion picture based on a book by Ernest Cline. I read the book and liked it a lot. I can’t wait to see the movie! Why should you care about the movie? Well…the movie (and the book) is about a video game of sorts and has a lot of video game references.…

Nintendo of America had an Indie (Nindie) showcase today. You can check that video out below and then please come back for my impressions of it. Today’s Nindie Showcase was not very good. There were no major surprises like Fornite or even a release date for Wargroove. None of the previously mentioned indie games from other showcases were mentioned at all. The video was also very short. Now, I’m not saying that there were no interesting games at all in…
Read MoreSea of Thieves PSA: Don’t Be That Guy Without a Microphone, plus more!
Yesterday afternoon, Xbox Canada unlocked Sea of Thieves for reviewers, and I quickly jumped in for a few hours to see all the exciting content that wasn't public during the alpha and beta phase of the game. Right from the get-go, Rare did not disappoint, with much more content ready and waiting for me the second I walked out of the tavern and down to my ship. Whether it was looking for chests, taking on undead pirates for loot via a washed up Message in a Bottle, or wrangling a few animals, my first few hours in Sea of Thieves have been pretty fun. that ...

I decided to check out the Japanese eshop recently. I knew there were one or two demos on there that were not on the American or European eshops. I especially wanted to check out the Dragon Quest Heroes 1 + 2 demo. I am a big Dragon Quest fan and this game has not come to North American (or Europe) yet. It may never come west. So I was happy to get a chance to check the demo out. Is…
Read MoreMore Thoughts From Me #111: You Can Climb That Mountain…Maybe!
There are some games that are so hard that you just want to throw your controller or in the case of the Switch, your system, and give up games altogether. And then there are other games that are hard and yet you don’t want to give up on the game. These are hard, maybe a bit punishing at times, and very addictive. Celeste for the Nintendo Switch fits into that second catogory. Its a hard game. Its also a very…
Read MoreKirby Star Allies Review
Like Mario and Zelda, Kirby is another of the Nintendo franchises that has refused to quit over the past 25 years, and for good reason: despite the 'easy' nature of these games, they continue to appeal to the broader Nintendo fan base, taking the world of platform video games and delivering it to a wider, more accessible audience. Like the Kirby games before it, Star Allies continues the trend of mixing easy gameplay with charming visuals and audio. Does the package work when stuck together? Despite the easy nature of the experience, we think so!
