My Sims Cozy Bundle Review
My Sims and My Sims Kingdom were originally on the Nintendo Switch. Thanks to the My Sims Cozy Bundle both games are back and on the Nintendo Switch. Are they worth playing again? Here’s our review of My Sims Cozy Bundle!
When you buy My Sims Cozy Bundle, you get two games: My Sims and My Sims Kingdom. These are two separate games that have been bundled together for one price. They appear separately on the Switch main menu and you select which one you want to play. We do wish they were included as one game. Still, its great to see both games again.
My Sims is the first game in this series. It was originally on the Nintendo Wii. In this game, the mayor of a small town recruits you to rebuild the place.
My Sims Kingdom is the second game in the series. It was originally on the Nintendo Wii too. In this game you find yourself in a small kingdom and soon become the Wandolier, the only person with a magic wand that’ll help you build houses and items. You then travel to other islands and help people.
The two games are similar in some ways and different in others.
My Sims has you rebuilding one town, though there are other areas to unlock that give you more room to explore the world. You are in charge of inviting people to move to the town, building their houses, and some of the items that go into the houses too.
The building is mostly easy, especially house building which is pretty basic. The item building is a little more intense but there are outlines that show you how and what to build. You can use the button controls or the touch screen. Button controls are the easiest way to control the game, but the touch screen inclusion is neat and can come in handy sometimes.
Navigating the menus in My Sims is easy, though sometimes exiting a room can be a little touchy since you’re using a menu button to leave instead of directly going to the door to open it. The menus are a lot like something you’d find on a PC game or, you know, a Wii game.
That said, the game plays better than it did on the Wii. The Wii version had long load times when going from the outside to the inside and framerate issues. The Switch version has very short load times and no framerate issues that we could see. It was great to experience a better version of this game. My Sims is a lot of fun for kids and adults.
Then there’s My Sims Kingdom. The scope of this game is much bigger than the first game since you go to different islands and they all have their own theme. The variety of environments and Sims is this one is excellent. And unlike the first game, you can build anywhere instead of going into a workshop to build. So that cuts down on load times even more. There are no framerate issues with this game either.
The controls in Kingdom are much better than the first game too. Button controls are easier and touch screen use is pretty good. Exiting rooms is easier and the fishing mini-game in this one is better than My Sims.
Though the game isn’t without some issues. We did have the game occasionally freeze up after we saved our game, though it didn’t happen too often and may have already been patched. Also, connecting wires and axles to things to get them to work can get a bit complicated. My Sims Kingdom may not be as accessible to younger audience as the first game is but its definitely the better game.
With more variety, better controls, and tons of things to do and see, My Sims Kingdom is a lot of fun despite some frustration with wire/axle connections and occasional freezing.
Both games are great though. They have similar cute, cartoon-like graphics and look good on the Nintendo Switch.
If you love simulation games, especially ones that let you build things and customize your game a bit, then you should check out the My Sims Cozy Bundle. Both games are well worth visiting again on the Nintendo Switch and checking out for the very first time. The Cozy Bundle is a great addition to the Switch’s library.
