LEGO Supply Llama Review
A few weeks ago, The LEGO Group and Epic Games sent over the 4 brand new LEGO Fortnite sets, and we have been having a blast putting them together. Obviously, we reviewed the big sets first – you can read our thoughts on the Battle Bus and Peely Bone now! But the most interesting set in my opinion was the Fortnite Supply Llama, a LEGO set based on the iconic purple Fortnite Llama that is always giving gifts and loot drops to players. With a bunch of included loot to stuff inside, this set was more than it appeared!
Unlike the Battle Bus and Peely Bone, the Fornite Supply Llama is a much easier, much more manageable LEGO build. My son Lochlan was able to put this together in short order, and never once asked for help with any of the pieces. There are not a ton of unique build practices in this set, but it is structurally sound after completion. It might not have been as interesting as putting together Peely Bone, but it was still an enjoyable experience overall.
Once together, though, the Supply Llama makes a great show piece for Fortnite fans. The Battle Bus is obviously a set that The LEGO Group meant for play. With all the included minifigures, it’s hard to imagine that set being in the home of young Fortnite fans and not getting strewn across the basement floor time and time again. Like Peely Bone, though, I think the Supply Llama makes a much better desktop or shelf piece than it does a set you will actually play with.
That being said, as we noted before, the Supply Llama in Fortnite is full of goodies to pick up and use, and that is the case for this LEGO version as well. Inside the Llama are drinks, dynamite, weapons, and more, all the perfect size to be used by the variety of minifigures included in the LEGO Fortnite Battle Bus. To that end, I could see the argument that this is most definitely a set to be played with, but the large size still screams decorative set to me!
I do love the detail here, and whether you choose to display the set or allow your kids to tear it apart in their self-created Fortnite world, you cannot deny that the set looks good. All the detail you would expect from LEGO, when working with IPs, is here. You look at this set and instantly know you are looking at the Fortnite Llama. There is no second guessing that. I specifically like the way the slope pieces are layered to give the Llama that fur effect.
Overall, this is a great set, and yes, if you want more playable Fortnite LEGO, this would be my second suggestion after picking up the LEGO Fortnite Battle Bus. If you are looking for another display piece to put next to Peely Bone, this works as well. It’s where my Supply Llama will be living!
