On the 3DS, we reviewed a game called Chicken Wiggle. We gave it a 10 out 10. And the game has been completely remade for the Nintendo Switch as Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure. Is the game still a 10 out of 10? Let’s find out!

In Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshoot Adventure, Hatch is a hawk on a mission to save his land from a baddy named Nazar. There’s a short cutscene that introduces this storyline and then you go into the gameplay.

This story is much better than Chicken Wiggles and it continues throughout the gameplay as you activate crystals in order to get to your goal. What about the gameplay though? Is it still good?

Hatch Tales’s platformer gameplay is just as great as it was on the 3DS. Many of the enemies and objects from Chicken Wiggle are back but the levels are completely new and offer some unique challenges.

Hatch Tales is far more forgiving than Chicken Wiggle: there are two hearts (no one hit kill! Yess) and if you die a lot, you’ll get three hearts and all of your hearts will be restored. There are more midpoints in this game too.

Even so the game does offer some challenges, with occasional insane timers and you may find yourself repeating hard sections of levels until you figure out the trick to get further.

The more forgiving difficulty does allow some of the levels to be longer than others, with more Metroidvania here and there and sometimes shorter levels with more challenge. There are secret levels to unlock and surprise arcade levels that we won’t spoil. They’re awesome though! The game controls just as great as it did on the 3DS.

And yes the level creator is back too. You can create your own levels and publish them online. We’re still working on creating some cool levels but there are already some amazing levels available to play already. We played one level that felt like classic Pac-man and another that was like Castelvania. The level creator adds so much replay value to this already great game. You can create levels with touch screen controls if you play with it in portable mode, which is something you don’t see too often in Switch games. The controls work very well for the level creating, both analog and touch screen. This game is a treat.

Hatch Tales is fantastic remake of Chicken Wiggle and it looks better too.

Hatch Tales has excellent graphics. The look of the main character has been completely redesigned and streamlined. He looks even cool than Chicken Wiggle. Though if you miss that character, you’ll get to see him in user created levels! The HD look of the levels makes Hatch Tales look even better than the original game, both in the traditional, arcade, and shadow levels. The music and sound are good too.

Overall, Hatch Tales is even better than Chicken Wiggle. Atooi has improved every aspect of the game. Hatch Tales has been worth the wait and if we could give it a higher score, we would. If you loved Chicken Wiggle, you’ll love this. If you never played Chicken Wiggle, then you absolutely must play Hatch Tales. This is a can’t miss platformer for the Nintendo Switch.

Thank you to Overload PR for providing a digital copy of this game for review. Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure will be available for the Nintendo Switch on October 22nd, 2024.
