Steamworld Heist 2 brings back the wonderful steam filled franchise for a new strategy turn-based affair. Is this a fun game? Will you be addicted to it? Here is our review of Steamworld Heist 2 for the Xbox Series.

The world of Steamworld Heist 2 is full of robots and they depend on water. Unfortunately, there is a water crisis at the moment. Enter Captain Leeway and his pirate crew who are just trying to get by when they are roped into helping end the water crisis. The story of Steamworld Heist 2 is pretty neat and there are some cool animated cutscenes for it. Though, the strategic gameplay is definitely the best part of the game.

First you have to rescue your submarine and then you’ll sail around fighting other ships and going on missions with your robots. We do wish you could actually press a button to shoot at other ships instead of the auto-fire that’s present here but sailing around is still fun. The best part of the gameplay though is the turn-based strategic battles.

When you take your robots into battles, you can equip them with a different weapon if you want which will change their job class. Job classes are not too important at first but as battles get harder, you’ll have to figure out which class of robot you need for certain battles.

Some of these battles are pretty tough, even on the easiest mode! You’ll be able to buy upgrades for your robots and sub at local bars that’ll help out. That’s pretty neat. The game controls really well, so at least that doesn’t add to the game’s difficulty.

The gameplay is very addictive. It’s a mission based affair with bullets that bounce off walls and enemies, lots of loot to find, and extra objectives that’ll challenge you. Some of the missions can feel similar to each other though, which leads to some repetition. We also wish there was a manual save along with the auto-save, because its not always easy to guess if the game saved everything you just did. Overall, Steamworld Heist 2 is a great game and it looks and sounds excellent too.

Steamworld Heist 2 has excellent graphics, with lots of detailed environments and enemies. Though things can feel a little repetitive since many of the environments and enemies look the same. Even so, this a great looking game.

The music and sound effects are better though. Steam Powered Giraffe is back providing fully voiced music that you’ll hear every time you go into the bars in the game. Its wonderful music. All of the songs are original and fantastic. The regular non-voiced music in the game is very good and the sound effects are great.

Steamworld Heist 2 is a ton of fun. The strategic gameplay is addictive and it looks and sounds great. There is some repetition to the enemies and missions, but overall, it’s a great game. If you love turn-based strategy games, then you’ll absolutely need this game!

A digital code was provided for this review. Steamworld Heist 2 is now available on the Xbox Series.
