If you like action/adventure games like Zelda and don’t mind short experiences, then we may have a game for you to check out! Here’s our review of Castaway for Nintendo Switch.

When his spaceship is destroyed and his escape pod lands on a mysterious planet, the main character of Castaway must gather his tools and his dog again in order to survive. The story of Castaway is pretty simple but its presented in a really neat manner via animated cutscenes. Briefer animated cutscenes appear when you grab a new tool or find your dog. Castaway’s main focus is its gameplay though.

There’s something you have to know about Castaway going into it: this is a very short game. There are two parts to it: the Island and the Tower. First you have to complete the Island and then you’ll unlock the Tower. You’ll finish the Island quickly and the Tower might take you a little longer depending on your skill level.

On the Island, you’ll feel like you are playing a Zelda game. After grabbing a sword, you’ll explore the Island and a dungeon. Just like a Zelda game, you’ll find tools along the way. The difficulty of enemies depends on what mode you are playing on.

Pacifist will let you play without any enemies, Invincible lets you be…well…invincible, normal is normal, and unfair is brutal. Our favorite was the Invincible mode.

The puzzles can still be a little challenging in any mode but not too bad. The Tower, on the other hand, is pretty tough. There are 50 levels and absolutely no save. You do get to upgrade your character some as you go, but its still very tough. So if you die..no when you die, you’ll end going back to the beginning. This is the mode that’ll keep you playing for awhile.

Castaway may be a short experience overall, but it’s a lot of fun. If you like Zelda, then you should check this game out. It has great graphics too.

Castaway is an excellent looking game: it reminds me of the original Gameboy Link’s Awakening expect more detailed and with better colors. The animated cutscenes are a treat too. Meanwhile, the game’s music and sound effects are very good.

If you are a Zelda fan, then Castaway will be a must have game for you. It’s a short experience but the gameplay and graphics are well made. Oh and it should be noted that the developer plans to add more to this game if it does well. What I’m saying is: GO BUY THIS GAME!

Thanks to Canari Games for providing a digital code for this review. Castaway is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
