The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been in a lot of video games. Mostly the games have been side scrolling beat ‘em ups. What if the turtles were in a roguelike though? That’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate and now its on Nintendo Switch. Here is our review of it.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) Splintered Fate, the evil Shredder attacks and those turtle boys don’t cut no slack. Ahem. Well, Shredder does attack and Splinter is kidnapped mysteriously. So the turtles have to go find out whats going on.

The story progresses bit by bit thanks to the game’s roguelike gameplay nature. Its an interesting story and seems to be influenced by the recent IDW comics. That said, is the roguelike gameplay fun?

TMNT Splintered Fate is a roguelike game where you’ll be playing the same levels over and over again. The layout of many of the levels change each time you play them though. You’ll be dying a lot! The good part is that you can keep the coins and scrap that you find in order to buy powerups to level up your turtles. You can play as any of the four turtles in single player and they all play different.

The combat in Splintered Fate is fast and there seemed to be no slowdown during single player. You can level up the Turtles temporary after you beat each level and then fully level them up at the Turtles lair. Since you are playing the levels over and over, things do start to feel a bit repetitive. Its too bad that, at least, the boss battles don’t have to be replayed. That said, the story still progresses a bit even when you failed at fully completing levels. The multiplayer feels a bit better than single player.

There is a local multiplayer mode, but we didn’t get to check that out. However we did play the online mode with another reviewer. The online worked well for the most part. There was a little lag once but otherwise, the gameplay was just as fast and furious as the single player. Also it felt better having someone else to play the game with. If you can, we recommend playing with four people online or offline. That seems like it would be the best way to play this game!

TMNT Splintered Fate is a really good game, despite the somewhat repetitive nature of it. If you like rougelike games like Hades and you are a TMNT fan, then this game should be right up your alley. It looks pretty good too.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splintered Fate has very good graphics. The game has an overhead camera, so you are getting a view of the action that you don’t normally get in TMNT games. There is a lot of detail to each of the characters and environments.

This game also has voice acting, which is pretty good, though some of the sound clips during battle can be a bit repetitive. The music is good too. TMNT is a very good game.

TMNT Splintered Fate is a very good game. It can feel a bit repetitive sometimes and we wish you can skip having to redo the boss battles each time, but overall it’s a fast and fun game. If you and three friends can get together either locally or online, that’s the best way to play this game. Though, if you’re a TMNT fan, you won’t want to miss this one either way.
