Soulcalibur II HD Announced

Soulcalibur II HD

Namco Bandai have announced that they’re bringing back one of the most popular fighting games of all time. Soulcalibur II was originally released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and Gamecube. That was ten years ago, and for its anniversary it’ll be seeing a HD port to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will be available for purchase in the autumn.

It won’t only be improved graphics, however. With any modern fighting game, one of the most important portions of the game is the online modes, and Soulcalibur II HD is being updated so that players will be able to battle it out with their favourite characters, against people from across the world.

Everything else about the game – with a single exception – is going to be just as you remember it. All of the different modes will be making their return – Arcade, Survival, Time Attack, Team Battle, Practice, Weapon Master and more. The only thing missing seems to be the cameo characters. The original Soulcalibur II release had an exclusive character on each console. On Gamecube, Link was a playable character; on PlayStation 2, Tekken’s Heihachi; and Spawn, the comic book character by Todd McFarlane.

Soulcalibur II will have a brand new netcode overseen by Project Soul, so hopefully it’ll be fairly tight online. Every frame counts!

Soulcalibur was most notable back in the day for allowing players to use weaponry in a fight. There were plenty of crazy characters and it rapidly became a franchise that was always worth checking out. It was also notable for its use of cameos, both those named above and, later, characters from the Star Wars films and Ezio from Assassin’s Creed. Soulcalibur II is the third game in the franchise.
