LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Ready to Impress?
Review for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga have begun to drop around the interwebs, and from most people’s vantage point, the game is not likely to disappoint. With levels spanning all 9 mainline films, and over 300 characters to play as, there seems to be plenty to do in a galaxy far, far away!
It’s good to see Warner Bros. working on the formula that has made LEGO games so very popular with fans. While the games are generally always fun, sometimes dated mechanics hold the various games back. It looks like with this latest adventure, Warner Bros. is going in a slightly different direction, improving on things that have been mediocre in the past.
One of the most exciting changes in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the position of the camera to be more third person, over the shoulder as opposed to a bit more top-down. This allows for more precise combat opportunities, and helps with the new cover system as well.
Further, this LEGO game goes beyond just the myriad of different characters with only slightly different characteristics, to introducing an entire class system, making each grouping of characters feel different from each other. There are also skill trees for each of these groups, allowing you to upgrade specific abilities of specific classes, which makes choosing who you use in any given mission a bit more strategic than before.
It also appears as if the button-mashing combat of past titles is basically a thing of the past. While some opponents require little-to-no skill to defeat, harder enemies and bosses will require some strategic thinking and maneuvering, as well as looping together combo attacks for mega damage and mega rewards. While I never minded the button-mashing nature of past LEGO titles, it’s a breath of fresh air here, it seems.
Ultimately, we cannot wait to get our hands on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but until then, feel free to see the latest video from Abdallah Smash!
