Is a 1-2 Switch Sequel on the way?
One of the most lackluster games on Nintendo I have ever played was 1-2 Switch. A game that played more like an elaborate tech demo for what the Nintendo Switch was capable of. From milking cows to counting ice cubes, and much more mundane activities. It really did highlight some of the amazing things the Switch could do, just after like 30 min….I and everyone in my house were over it. But are we actually getting another one?
According to game leaker Zippo:
“1-2-Switch is one of the most dull, lifeless, forgettable games I have ever played, and yet, it’s getting a sequel for some reason. It sold well, I think?” they wrote.
Despite all of this, Nintendo sold 3.18 million copies of 1-2-Switch by the end of 2019, making it one of the best-selling games on the console at the time.
Also insider Emily Rogers recently tweeted that she was “curious to see the critical reception to an upcoming casual game,” adding: “I doubt this sequel will win over many new fans.” Pretty cryptic but I am hard pressed to thing of another game worth talking about that fits this category. 1-2 Switch is sitting at a disappointing 58 on Metacritic.
In its latest financial results published last week, Nintendo said Switch has become its best-selling home console in history.
The console has shipped over 103 million units – surpassing Wii’s 101 million total – of which 98 million had been used at least once in the past year.
Nintendo stated last May that investment in Switch’s successor had contributed to a record annual research and development spend at the company.
And during its previous financial results briefing in November, Nintendo said it was still internally discussing the concept and launch timing for its next gaming system.
