Getting To Grips with Far Cry 6

You’re new to Far Cry 6, to the Far Cry series or to video games entirely. There’s a huge island to explore and strange people trying to kill you. Where do you go? What do you do?

Despite having a lot of guidance for new players, Far Cry 6 isn’t the easiest game to get to grips with. So for newbies to the title, series or genre, we have put together a simple guide to help ease you into things.

So without further ado, here are some start-at-the-start tips for the most basic of beginners.

Turn down the aim sensitivity

The most basic element of any video game is movement. From the second you take control of your character, any disconnect between how you want to move and how they actually move will be jarring.

Which is why it was so annoying to me that the camera in Far Cry 6 felt off. This made fights and exploring more difficult than they need to be.

So for those new to first-person shooters, I would suggest turning that down as soon as possible. Head into your options and lower the sensitivity settings. This will slow the movement of your view and will provide a more stable aiming environment.

Explore… Or Don’t

Yup, this is one of those open-world games where you have everything in front of you and no idea what to do with it. Exploring the world of Far Cry 6 is recommended, if only to get better equipment and levelling opportunities.

But sometimes you just want to play a game. Enjoy it the way you want to, and adapt your play style to suit.

This takes a little bit of experimentation as you figure out what works for you. The AI certainly doesn’t always help. But with a bit of time, you’ll figure out what you enjoy before long.

Companions in Far Cry 6

Not long after starting Far Cry 6, you’ll meet Guapo the Crocodile. He’s your best friend. His breath probably stinks and you’ll very quickly tire of hearing variations on “Make sure that crocodile doesn’t hurt anybody” as you’re stealthing a camp, but that’s by the by.

Other companions have inherent flaws that might suit your play style, once you’ve worked out what that is. As always, experimentation is key. But if you just want something that works, pick Guapo, and you won’t be disappointed.

As a side note, my Guapo committed suicide shortly after meeting me. He thought we were playing Assassin’s Creed and swan dived off a cliff face. Bringing him back was as simple as going into the menus and pressing summon.

Know Thy Far Cry Enemy

I’m a stealth player. No matter what I play, my Solid Snake instincts come out. I want to know exactly what I’m up about and how to minimise my impact before having to show up to a fire fight.

Your mileage may vary. Shooting stuff indiscriminately in Far Cry 6 is bloody fun as well.

But even then, it’s a clever player that takes a second to look at what he’s up against. Far Cry 6 has enemy types and information about how to beat them is available on your camera.

Press the up button on your d-pad to bring up the camera and then focus on your enemies to bring them up. Some info will flash up, and you’ll be able to work out the best way of taking them on.

If that’s just shooting them in the head, then all the more power to you.
