Square Enix Are Working on a New AAA Hitman, Mobile Game
In an email sent out today detailing various changes to western Square Enix personnel, the publisher has confirmed that IO Interactive are working on a “new AAA Hitman game.” No other details were given (aside from the fact that the game is in pre-production), although it’s probably fair to presume you won’t be waiting as long as you were for Hitman Absolution, and that the new game will be making an appearance on next-gen consoles.
It’s also noted that Square Enix Montréal, a studio where the main focus is becoming “a centre of excellence for game development on smart devices (primarily tablets),” is going to be working on the Hitman brand as well.
The email also revealed that Eidos-Montréal are working on Thief, as well as two other unannounced projects. One might be Nosgoth, the multiplayer game set in the same world as the Legacy of Kain series (although the gameplay itself is said to be completely different).
From the press release:
“Our focus remains firmly set on making great games and delivering unforgettable experiences,” said Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix America & Europe. “Whilst our games will come in different shapes and sizes, we want to deliver them faster and better and we believe these changes will help our studios achieve just that.”
