New details on Pokemon Snap
During today’s Pokemon Direct, we got a few more details on New Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo Switch due on April 30th. The original title came out in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 and my wife (girlfriend) at the time and I spent countless hours running through Pokemon Island to get the best scores possible and fill up our Pokedex. Because the ’90s was also super gimmicky we even went to Blockbuster Video to print out some stickers of our photos from the game which was a pretty cool feature at the time.
Over the years I kept hoping they would make another one or something similar, but nothing ever came along. Until now, over twenty years later my wife and I are set to snap away at Pikachu and the rest of the gang.
In this new game, we are doing an ecological survey of the Lental Region. Guided by Professor Mirror this time instead of Oak, we will head out to document the wild Pokemon of the Lental Region’s various islands. Much like the original game we will snap photos and get ranked on photo composition, poses, and how much of the frame is filled. I’m sure bonus points for multiple Pokemon will remain, we will once again be able to toss items at Pokemon to lure them out or change how they behave to get different perspectives on the photos. The camera will also be used to scan which will uncover hidden Pokemon and other secrets lurking in the landscape.
But the game doesn’t stop there, it’s not just about filling up the Pokedex, we can also edit our photos adding filters, stickers, and such, and upload them to the internet to be judged by our peers. Because if there is anything the internet is good for, it’s judging others. Even though there are enhancements to the game this time around it does still feel like the same old Pokemon Snap which greatly excites me (and my wife).
