Board Games with Asmodee for the Holiday’s – Wavelength

Another night, another family board game. Thanks to our friends at Asmodee Canada we have been working through a variety of social board games great for the whole family, and last night we did a deep dive on Wavelength, a game of guessing. If you are looking for a fun party game for your immediate family during this pandemic rittled holiday season, Wavelength will provides hours upon hours of entertainment.

In Wavelength, teams will work hard to read each others minds. Yes, you heard that correctly. Is your mind blown yet? Yes? Good. One player on the team is the Psychic for the round, and will draw a card from the pile. They will then blindly spin the wheel that highlights where the spectrum will be, look at it, and then hide it for their teammates to guess. Each card will have two binaries, that could be HOT-COLD, ROUGH-SMOOTH, etc. The Psychic will then need to provide a clue that will help his or her team choose the correct space on the spectrum.

For example, a HOT-COLD card could have the points pie chart near the hot side of the spectrum, and so the Psychic might use the clue, “Coffee.” On the spectrum of HOT-COLD, Coffee would be near the HOT side, taking into account that it’s not as hot as, say, boiling water. The better the clue, the better the team can place the line, and earn their team points.

The game looks gimmicky for sure, but once assembled, it works really well. The player spins the wheel to set where on the spectrum they need to provide a clue, then hides the pie chart of points and their teammates begin to guess where to place the pointer. With dozens upon dozens of different cards, we played for hours and never had to reuse a card. That being said, should you ever need to reuse a card, the spectrum location will likely be different, meaning the clue will be different.

This was really fun, and we cannot wait to play more. We haven’t played for weeks like we normally would before commenting on a game, but we LOVED this one!
