Amazon UK sold out of PS5 in less than 30 minutes

Amazon UK stopped taking pre-orders for PlayStation 5 consoles in less than half an hour.

Pre-orders went live at about 9.05am and the device was removed from searches on the website by 9.30am.

The website currently reads: “We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”

Some reported issues before pre-orders were closed. The website was crashing, and some purchase links just returned hopeful gamers to the Amazon homepage.

It’s unclear whether further batches will be put up for pre-order in the coming weeks, or whether those who couldn’t purchase in that half an hour have already missed out.

Elsewhere, PlayStation’s sudden pre-order announcement caused confusion with major retailers. GAME put up their pre-order page in the early hours of the morning and had already sold out by the time most people were waking up.

Toy shop Smyths had been registering interest in the PlayStation 5 for several months, but didn’t seem to alert anybody to the pre-order until after it had sold out.

Sony announced their flagship PlayStation 5 would be available for £449.99 last night. Its digital counterpart is £359.99.

The console will launch with titles such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon Souls. The former is also coming to PlayStation 4, alongside Horizon 2: Forbidden West.
