Ary and the Secret of Seasons Review
Did you like platformers on the Nintendo 64 or Gamecube (or PS1/PS2)? Then you may want to check out Ary and the Secret of Seasons on the Nintendo Switch! Here’s our review.
Ary and the Secret of Seasons is an action/adventure/platformer indie game. The gameplay is fun and it runs mostly well, with only the occasional issues.
Some minor issues: once the character was running weird, she had her arms out like she was acting like an airplane, and sometimes the jumping in the game isn’t too precise. And I did notice the screen go black briefly one time while changing the seasons too. The developer has noted some other issues that we didn’t encounter and said they will be fixing them. Overall, Ary is a pretty fun game!
Ary has a lot of platforming and chest finding, along with plenty of exploration and an interesting plot. It also has a really cool gameplay mechanic where you can change the seasons! The graphical effect for changing seasons is quick and stunning. It really is the best effect in the game.
Its pretty neat how the seasons will allow you to cross areas you couldn’t before and/or reveal things that were previously unseen. Without a doubt, the seasons changing is the most impressive aspect of the graphics.
The graphical style of Ary is a bit retro and sometimes it looks good and sometimes just okay. The characters models are pretty good though. And I like the super retro, a 8-bit like, map in the corner of the screen.
One thing that was annoying was all the load times in the game. Every time you go into a new area, the game has to load and it can take awhile. Its good to have your 3DS (or phone) on hand to surf the net while waiting.
Ary and the Secret of Seasons is a good game. Its not perfect, but action/adventure/platformer fans should check it out!
