Paper Mario: The Origami King Has A Fishing Mini-Game

Thanks to Nintendo Canada, I’ve been playing Paper Mario: The Origami King. I have beaten the first big area, including the first two major bosses, and now I’m onto a brand new area. This article will not spoil any major plot points for the game, but if you don’t want to know anything at all about the Origami King, please don’t read on. I do talk about the game’s wonderful fishing mini-game and some other cool stuff.

Paper Mario: The Origami King has a fishing mini-game!

Yes, that is the most important thing you should know about the game. Okay, okay, one of the most important things you should know.

The fishing mini-game is pretty cool. Of course, I’m a sucker for a good fishing mini-game. And Paper Mario: The Origami King has a very good one: its simple, like Animal Crossing, and oh so addictive. I love it.

So I bet you’re wondering about the rest of the game? How is Paper Mario: The Origami King so far?

Well, first of all, the humor is what we’ve come to expect from Paper Mario: goofy, silly, and absolutely delightful. There are some lines in this game that I totally did not expect. Here’s one of them:

See what I mean? And the funny unexpected lines from Toads keep on coming. Yeah, everyone else is funny too but the Toad’s are just the stars. Really. Wow.

Then there’s the game’s exploration, which includes a lot of things to find and places to go. You just never know what you’ll find around the next corner. There are, especially, a lot of Toad’s to find and you have to really look for them. They are hidden very creatively.

Oh and perhaps you are wondering about the game’s battle system?

Let me say this: don’t let the battle system fool you. The battles start out very easy. I’ll repeat: Don’t let it fool you. The battles quickly become harder.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, the battles are turn-based but a new puzzle mechanic has been added in. In normal battles, players can line the enemy up for extra damage. You can beat the enemy without lining them up, but the battles are much harder if you do that.

Now boss battles are totally different. In boss battles, the player has to line up arrows that lead you to the enemy weak point. The arrows will also lead you to other things like powerups, hints, and attacks. Line things up the right way and you can beat the boss. If you line things up the wrong way, well, it’ll lead to a game over for sure.

I’ve fought two boss battles so far and they are very hard. Either that or I really suck at these boss battle puzzles. I think its both. They are hard and I suck at it. Somehow I beat them both. I have no idea, that most recent one looked especially impossible. Of course there will be people who say that the boss battles are easy. There are always people like that.

These battles are not easy. The battles overall in this game are tough. Don’t let this game fool you. Its funny, silly, goofy, and wonderful. And the game also provides a challenge!

Most of all, I want you to remember this: Paper Mario: The Origami King has a fishing mini-game.
