Metal Gear Solid V Coming to Xbox One

Nobody but the biggest Xbox One fanboy would have expected Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to be the first game to get actual gameplay footage on the Xbox One, and that Hideo Kojima would be there to talk up the system afterwards. It was a huge surprise and a huge screw-you to gamers who had doubted that the Xbox One would be able to pull in the core titles that made the 360 a must-own. The surprise was short-lived, however, as the game itself was absolutely stunning.

When the phrase “Strealth Redefined” popped up on screen, long-time gamers would have been forgiven for rolling their eyes. Firmly behind the idea of  ‘show, don’t tell’ however, the E3 trailer displayed the various ways in which Big Boss will now be able to hide himself from the enemy. Whether it’s by hanging off his horse (to make it seem like nobody is riding it) or leaping from building to building, Metal Gear has never been freer, and it totally matches the new open world gameplay.

Backed up by a crack team (which includes Revolver Ocelot), Snake is a “forgotten legend” with a robot arm who wants revenge for the assault on Mother Base, and for the kidnap of his friend Master “Kaz” Miller. The gameplay trailer took place in Afghanistan, although whether the bulk of the game is based in that location wasn’t revealed. A new dynamic CQC system lets players fight more closely than ever before, and sneaking to your objective has never allowed for so many choices. Here’s hoping that the cardboard box is still just as effective as always.

This was also the first time we’ve heard Keifer Sutherland’s voice as Big Boss. It was unusual, but it worked.
