Preparing to DREAM (PS4)
So before I embark on my journey into Dreams, lets discuss for a bit why I am excited (and nervous) to try this bad boy out.
When Dreams was first unveiled officially at E3 in 2015, it had me interested. I am often a sucker for the oddities in video games, and this seemed to have it all with unlimited potential. For those who don’t know, at it’s core Dreams is a video game making tool. But it’s not just that, it’s a social platform where people can collaborate, compete in design contests, and explore other “Dreamers” creations. I have been a fan of the fun, creative nature of Media Molecule for a long time, so this SUPER ambitious project is finally seeing the light now.
While I often consider myself to be a creative person, I have never found things in games such as level editors, course creators, etc to be something I’m interested in. Even as big of a Nintendo fan I am, the thought of Mario Maker alone has me all set….and this is on a MUCH grander scale. I am excited to see what others (far more talented) than myself have created, I am eager to dig in and see the possibilities of what this can do. We occasionally see things published on sites highlighting ultra realistic art from Dreams, or recreations of other things in Dreams, etc etc. And I want to dive into it all!!
Now I am also nervous, to see the creator process. Will it be hard to make something, are there endless tutorials to get through, is there enough here to make an average joe get up and try and create something. That part I’m not sure of. Now during my review I am not taking into consideration my abilities to create something. But I will be analyzing ease of use, variety of tools, learning curve and such.
There is a story mode as well known as Art’s Dream that I am excited to embark on as well. In my review I also anticipate listing some of my favorite experiences there for you all to check out. So goodnight Dreamers….I’ll see you on the other side.
