Greedy Kingdoms – How to Play
Two player games are all the rage with my wife and I right now because we can quickly get a game going, perhaps while watching a show on TV, and have a great time. They are generally quick, easy to pick up and play, and compact for when braining on dates. Greedy Kingdoms fits this bill, and is a really great experience. But let’s look at how to play!
Setup
Separate the two players heroes decks from each other and give one to each player. Take the Hero upgrade deck, shuffle it thoroughly, and place it so both players can access it.
Take the deck of development cards – minus the Royal Palace cards – shuffle thoroughly, and deal 5 out onto the table, placing the rest nearby so the cards can easily be replaced.
Place the wooden resource tokens on the table, so all players can reach it. Set the three Royal Palace cards face up next to the other cards. Choose a starting player – the attacking player – and get ready to play.
Objective
The objective of Greedy Kingdom is to the first to purchase two Royal Palace cards. Once a player has purchased their second Royal Palace card, the game automatically ends.
How to Play
Collecting resources is the name of the game in Greedy Kingdoms, and making sure you have a good flow of resources will be key to winning the game. The cards that you will play will dictate which resources you will gain each round, some which are free to obtain when a card is played, and some that will cost.
The round begins be refiling the development cards back up to 5 (if any are missing), and then the attacking player can purchase one of those cards if they can. After this, the ‘battle’ for that round will happen.
The attacking player will examine their hand of Hero cards and choose three to play; the defending player will also choose three cards, attempting to guess which cards the attacking player might play in order to block those cards from use. After both players have chosen their cards, the attacking player reveals their cards one at a time.
If the defending player has also chosen the card the attacker displays, the defender will play that card and block the attacker from gaining the benefits. If the defending player does not have the card shown, the attacking player obtains the resources, paying resources if required.
After cards have been played and resources collected, the attacking player will get another development card-purchasing phase, resources allowing. Upgrading their characters with a card from the character upgrade deck is also always an option during these development phases, although who you get is randomized by the face down stack.
If a player has not successfully built their second Royal Palace, the defending player will now become the attacking player, and the round order will repeat.
And that is how you play Greedy Kingdoms!
