Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a Great Kart Alternative to the “Other Guy”
The karting scene on Nintendo has been dominated by Mario Kart for as long as I can remember, despite valiant efforts by others such as Sonic Team Racing, and now, Nickelodeon Kart Racers! Understandably, it’s hard to go up against a giant like Mario Kart and succeed, but with a lower price points, and loads of entertainment to be had, the offering from Nickelodeon comes close to being right up next to Mario Kart!
The attractive pricing will make this an experience many parents won’t overlook for their kids, at 49.99 in Canada, and 39.99 in the United States. And for your money, you get some pretty good value, including 24 included tracks and 12 Nickelodeon characters to choose from, including favourites like the Ninja Turtles, Spongebob and Patrick, and much more.
Content wise, everything is here, as you would expect. You can customize karts with different items to make them bigger, have more speed, or more acceleration, what ever fits your play style. And even the driving mechanics and items available are not bad, but ultimately they aren’t as good as the Nintendo developed experience. That doesn’t mean Nickelodeon Kart Racers is bad, mind you, it’s just not as good. So if we step back for a second, lets look at what we do have:
- A competent racing experience that is enjoyable.
- A variety of courses, characters, and vehicles to use.
- The ability to play with others, and have a blast doing it.
- A budget friendly price tag for a good amount of content.
Does it look as good as the other guys? No. Does it handle as good as the other guys? Still, no, although it’s not a big difference. Is it still fun? Yes, most definitely.
And that’s ultimately what matters here. Even if you are a big fan of Mario Kart, Nickelodeon Kart Racers is offering up enough that is different to warrant the purchase. And if you are a huge Nickelodeon fan, why not dive into this almost as good, cheaper experience? I would.
We give Nickelodeon Kart Racers a respectable 7.0/10.
