New Mario Tennis Aces Trailer Details New Gameplay Mechanic
Nintendo dropped another Mario Tennis Aces trailer ahead of the games launch later this month, and not only was it a good trailer, but it introduced a new gameplay mechanic as well. You can see the full trailer below, and past that, we touch on the new mechanic: Challenging the referee!
The video – which features tennis superstar Rafael Nadal – also shows off the games latest mechanic, the ability to challenge calls when playing in Swing Mode. Swing Mode – understandably – is when both players are using the Joy-Con to imitate the movements of a tennis racket. I’m glad challenging the referee isn’t a mechanic across the entire game, but in 1v1 matchups with friends, it adds a more realistic touch to the tennis experience.
The real question will be how noticeable is a ball that is out of bounds. In real tennis, it’s difficult – but not impossible – to determine with your own eyes whether a ball is out or not. Often, you aren’t too far away from the impact to make that judgement call yourself. My worry for Mario Tennis Aces is that these decisions will be a coin toss for whoever is making them. Unless in a close game situation, would it even be worth it?
We will find out more about this mechanic, and everything else in Mario Tennis Aces when it launches later this month on Nintendo Switch!
