More Thoughts From Me #86: The Rabbids Invade the Mushroom Kingdom

I didn’t believe the rumor about a Mario crossover game with Ubisoft’s Rabbids. I thought it was just something somebody with a lot of time and an overactive imagination came up with. And when I found out it was true, I wondered how good a game with Mario and the Rabbids could be. I was very impressed by the first footage of the game though. I was starting to get excited about Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Would this game be good? I’ve finally found out the answer and I want to tell you what I think of the game so far!

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a bizarre game. It shouldn’t exsist. I’m not one of those people who hates the Rabbids. I like the Rabbids. I enjoyed Rabbids Go Home a lot. But Mario and the Rabbids in a game together? Come on.

And yet, Kingdom Battle is an excellent game. The blending of Mario and Rabbids is strange but it works. The humor is funny and best of all, the game is fun.

Mario and the Mushroom kingdom gang have never been in a strategy rpg before. There’s a first for everything. And Mario and the gang have never dealt with such a unique crossover either. Nintendo gave Ubisoft the keys to a Mario spinoff game and Ubisoft completely delievered.

Mario + Rabbids is not an easy game. The battles in this game will keep you on your toes and make you think. You will die a lot in this game. You will have to repeat battles, but that doesn’t become annoying. The battles in this game may be hard but they are really fun.

The controls in Mario + Rabbids single player are very good. There are a lot of things to do in and out of battle, so controls are important here. The game gives you a lot of ways to customize your characters with unique weapons and skills to learn.

The exploration is very good in this game too and you’ll find yourself looking all over for hidden weapons and other things.

And Mario + Rabbids has a multiplayer co-op mode too! Its only local play, no online, but it is a cool addition. Unfortunately, I don’t have the right controllers for this mode. Using the right joy-con for one player and the left joy-con for the other  player just doesn’t work that well. The controls for playing this way are hard to learn. I wish I had a pro controller so that my second player could enjoy co-op. sigh. Well, maybe one of these days.

Despite that hiccup in multiplayer mode, everything else in Mario + Rabbids works really well. I continue to enjoy this game a lot.
