NX Rumors Continue to Mount, Nintendo Will Not React
If anything can be learned from the year of 2016, it is that fan hype can destroy something that, when released, is still very good. The initial thought here would be No Man’s Sky. A quiet development team and so much fan hype ultimately led to mediocre scores for the anticipated titles. I feel the same way right now about Nintendo and the NX.
We are only 8 months away from the launch of the Nintendo NX – if Nintendo’s March 2017 announcement is to be believed – but without a showing at E3 2016, and little comment on the numerous rumors that have come from significant sources, I wonder if Nintendo is setting themselves up for a No Man’s Sky type reaction.
Lets face it – and no disrespect to the developers at No Man’s Sky – but Nintendo is smarter than that. At some point, Nintendo will react to something, but I think only if its wildly untrue. And there have been some wild rumors backed by filed Nintendo patents, including detachable controls, motion controls, and force feedback.
I find Nintendo oddly quiet, and perhaps that because the reaction to these numerous rumors has been outstandingly positive, even from people who are not ready for a new generation. We have to assume that Nintendo has an almost finished project locked in a vault somewhere in Japan, waiting for that perfect time to release information. As long as fan reactions seems positive, and that the rumors more than likely align with what Nintendo will release, I don’t see them saying anything for a few more months.
If things on the fan side turn sour, expect Nintendo to step in and set the record straight.
