The Pros and Cons of Mighty No. 9 Open Beta Version

If you’re a Megaman fan, whether it’s the original, X, Battle Network or so, you might be looking at its successor. Since it’s birth way back in 1987, the Megaman series has been very successful. The blue pixel guy has been attracting several players around the world due to his amazing adventures.

Megaman’s story was truly amazing, in which he needs to defeat several bosses before encountering the ultimate mastermind, Dr. Wily. Originally, Megaman was a robot helper under Dr. Light until chaos came into the world. He was converted into a fighting robot with the famous Mega Buster. The mission continues with the ongoing series until the last official Megaman game released (fan-made Megaman games aren’t counted though).

Long time Megaman creator Keiji Inafune has parted ways with Capcom, as he already started his own game company. The first time I knew Keiji was from a crowdfunding site called Kickstarter. But before that, I wasn’t really researching about the entire history of Megaman’s creation. Now that I know who the creator is, I was so inspired by him. I browsed into the gaming section of Kickstarter and…..

I saw Mighty No. 9 and decided to check it out!

As I looked at the inspiring video of Keiji Inafune’s project, there was a “blast from the past”. It reminds me of the Megaman games that I’ve played before. This was indeed the next Megaman, as Keiji says. When I saw the first gameplay of Mighty No. 9 Open Beta on Youtube, it was really attractive. I am one of the guys who can’t wait for this to be released anytime soon.

However due to the recent bugs that are found within the game, the launch will be officially delayed for good. There’s also a recent news about the disappointing trailer of Mighty No. 9, which is not according to their plan.

As of now, Mighty No. 9 is in Open Beta phase before officially launches in a later date. This is for the purpose of testing them out first and see if there are any issues within the game. Just like any other games out there, the Open Beta version of Mighty No. 9 is still on trial and error mode for those who backed up the project made by Keiji Inafune.

By the way, here’s the recent trailer that I’m talking about by watching the video below:

Without further ado, here are the pros and cons of the Mighty No. 9 Open Beta version.

Pros

1 – 2D side scrolling

Just like most of the Megaman games out there (except some stages of Megaman X7), it uses a traditional side scrolling method to easily play Mighty No. 9. This is where Megaman was famous in terms of this kind of play. As Keiji isn’t connected to Capcom anymore, but he has the right to make this game a side scrolling type.

Not only it is a side scrolling game, but in 2D graphics as well. In Megaman X7, it uses 3D graphics, where you may experience slow gameplay when they move anywhere. In X8, they put it back to 2D and a little twist and turn in side scrolling play. Mighty No. 9 is currently using 2D graphics which make gameplay faster and reliable in any gaming console.

2 – Long levels and challenging obstacles

In Megaman, each level is not that long but obstacles are challenging. However with Mighty No. 9, this is where you say that one stage is very long to accomplish. Not only that, obstacles are quite challenging as we speak. This is quite fun for Megaman fans out there, as it also needs your mind to think of what should you do in that situation like the classic ones before. This is one feature that Megaman fans should love in playing this brand new upcoming game.

3 – Dash skill can damage enemies

In the first Megaman series, he has a sliding ability. In the X series, he can dash forward. Unless he has special armor items like the Ultimate Armor or Falcon, he can jump and dash in any direction at the same time. This is what I really liked most in playing Megaman and the X series.

What makes Mighty No. 9 different compare to other games is that you can damage enemies while dashing. It can relate to Megaman 5’s Charge Kick skill, but this is already available from the very beginning. You just need to damage your enemies a bit before dashing through them and earn combos.

4 – This game is only $15 and available in different gaming consoles

What I really liked about Mighty No. 9 is that it’s really affordable to buy. However, there are some online shops which you need to buy more than $15. The first Megaman series can be played through the NES console only. Since this is already in the archives, you can play this through your PC by installing an emulator. Megaman X4 to X6 are playable only through PSX and Playstation PC emulator. In other words, specific Megaman games aren’t compatible and available in different gaming platforms.

As for Mighty No. 9, you can actually play this in any gaming console like PC, PS4, XBox One, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS and a lot more. You don’t need to worry about buying another gaming console just to play Mighty No. 9. You definitely need to find the best gaming motherboard of 2016 to have a different level of experience in playing Mighty No. 9 on your personal gaming computer.

Cons

1 – No “Mega” Buster

I love charging Megaman with its Mega Buster. Actually this special ability power started way back in Megaman 4 and onwards. However, Megaman 9 and 10 on the Nintendo Wii features no Mega Buster but through rapid firing only. The same thing applies to Mighty No. 9, in which the developer decides not to implement the Mega buster that requires you to charge for a while before releasing a “Super” blast.

If Keiji would have implemented this in the next installment of this game, I’m looking forward to it.

2 – Sprite and glitch issues

This is something that the game developers should fix before launching the Mighty No. 9 game. Since Kickstarter backers are given access to beta testing, some of them found this issue within the game. Not only that, beta testers also noticed that the power-ups are unpredictable, which seems to be quite confusing to them.

If game developers could fix this issue before the official release, for sure it’ll satisfy Mighty No. 9 fans a bit.

Final words

Mighty No. 9 is not yet considered better than Megaman. However, this game has a bright future and can be interesting for the next installments, courtesy of the creator Keiji Inafune. Also known as Beck, Mighty No. 9 brings back the memories of Megaman fans out there to play this awesome game. They’re not there yet, but one day this game would be bigger in the next few years or a decade.
