More Thoughts From Me E3 Special Edition: That Was Much Better Nintendo

Day 2 of Nintendo’s Treehouse is over. So I thought I’d write up my thoughts about what I saw in Day 2. Overall, I was pleased. I’ll tell you why and gush about the games that I loved. Here we go with my final More Thoughts solely focused on Nintendo’s E3!

Oh my goodness. That was so much better than Day One of the Nintendo Treehouse. Yes, I did skip watching a couple of games because I had no interest in them. I should’ve skipped Pokemon Go at the beginning too, but I didn’t (much to my regret). However, I really loved this Treehouse Live more than yesterday’s because there was such a variety in games. Zelda was fantastic, but it would have been awesome to showcase it shortly along with these other great games instead of a whole day focused on it. Anyway, that was day one. Lets talk about Day 2 more!

After Pokemon Go got over, we were treated with a completely new game for the 3DS! Nintendo really came through with a major E3 surprise here. The game is called Ever Oasis and its an action rpg that is coming next year. The game’s graphics look wonderful and the gameplay looks like a lot of fun! One of the key creators of Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3 is working on Ever Oasis and so is the company that remade Majora’s Mask. So what we got with the footage of the game was something that reminded me of Final Fantasy and Zelda a bit. Though, it had many new and interesting qualities. I especially loved the sim element that was shown for the game. I do wish the game was coming this year, but then again, we have so many games coming this year I don’t know if I’d have the time for it!

Nintendo also showed off some games I wasn’t too interested in, but watched the footage of anyway. Monster Hunter Generations was the most impressive looking of those games. There will be a code for a special demo of it sent out to some My Nintendo members tonight. The regular demo is later this month for everyone. I’m sure many people will love this game. I’m not a fan of Monster Hunter, but will try the demo anyway if I get sent a code. Maybe I’ll even write about it! We’ll see. But there were other games during today’s Treehouse that I really loved and want to talk about next.

Dragon Quest 7 was shown off today and the game looked amazing! A lot of the gameplay reminded me of Dragon Quest 9 for the DS, which I loved, but with plenty of new stuff to make the game interesting. I love that the game will have some unique jobs like the Monster Master job and the new streetpass functionally sounds awesome. My dad plans to get the game too, so I’m sure we’ll be sharing the streetpass dungeons a lot! Best of all, though, is that the game finally has a release date! Dragon Quest 7 is coming on September 16th. I cannot wait!

Another game that amazed me was Paper Mario: Color Splash. I think Color Splash’s graphics are jaw dropping and the gameplay looks like a ton of fun. I’m looking forward to playing the game a lot. I think anyone who passes on this game will really be missing out. Color Splash looks so much better than Sticker Star: the environments are larger, the color splashing looks neat, the cards look better than the stickers, and the game uses the gamepad a bunch! This is another game that is a must for my Wii U collection.

Finally, I’d like to mention the new BoxBoy game. I just bought the original BoxBoy game because it was on sale. I like the game a lot so far. The new game looks like the first, but with some added new challenges. I’m sure its going to be a fun game. I was happy with what I saw.

Yes, I wasn’t happy with everything I saw in today’s Nintendo Treehouse, even so I think that there was so much more variety and loved the feel of this treehouse more. This felt more like a regular Nintendo E3 treehouse, where as the one from yesterday felt like a normal Treehouse Live. In any case, I think Nintendo did very well at this E3 overall. They did much better than I or anyone else expected. My only major disappointment with them is that we didn’t get more Wii U games shown for this year. I love the 3DS support, but I feel really down about how Nintendo is treating the Wii U. sigh. That said, I still enjoyed this E3 more than I thought I would.

Was it their best E3? No, definitly not. I think they really missed out by not having a Nintendo Digital Event. It was a good E3 for them but far from their best. I do think they’ll win best game with Zelda from many websites though! So who did have the best E3 event?

I plan to write a final E3 More Thoughts on Friday. It will sum up my feelings about Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. It’ll also declare a winner in my mind. If you’ve been following my More Thoughts columns this week, you probably know who I’m going pick! Humor me anyway please.

I’ll see you again on Friday!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. As previously noted, Adam loves Pokemon. He might even like Rhythm Heaven and that Tokyo Mirage game. I don’t know for sure. In any case, this was a fun day!! (DRAGON QUEST RELEASE DAAAAAATTEEEE!)
