Bravely Second: End Layer, an rpg for the 3DS, will be coming on Friday (4/15). The title is the sequel to Bravely Default and both titles are by Square Enix. Today, Nintendo Canada released a press release giving more information about the game. I’ll include the entire press release at the end, but let me take a moment to talk about some of the highlights. The highlights are in bold and my comments are in regular type!

” Picking up a few years after the events of the last game, Bravely Second: End Layer finds returning fan-favourite characters Tiz and Edea joining up with newcomers Yew and Magnolia to rescue an old friend. Despite the return of some familiar faces, the story is completely new, thrusting players into a sprawling adventure full of dangerous enemies, gorgeous locales and 30 job classes to master.”

Square Enix use to never do sequels with their games. Every Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest use to tell different stories from the other. Bravely Second seems a lot like classic Final Fantasy, but this game is firmly a sequel to the previous game in the series. Even the graphics and battle system seem to be the same as Bravely Default. Will Bravely Second be a true sequel or just an add on to Bravely Default? Players will have to wait till the game releases to find out! Though, you can download the demo from the eshop now for an extra story.

” Bravely Second: End Layer even includes jobs like Catmancer, which finds players training cats to perform abilities learned from enemies.”

Catmancer? Really? I like cats, but…how useful will this job be? It just seems very odd.

” And by using the “Favorites” feature new to Bravely Second: End Layer, players can now save their favourite job, ability and equipment configurations for their party to easily switch between whenever they are needed. “

This sounds really useful! I loved how in Final Fantasy X-2 you could switch jobs right in battle. I doubt thats the case here, but its cool that you can save favorites in order to switch to a job/weapon/ability arrangement that you need!

” Although the game is primarily a single-player experience, Bravely Second: End Layer takes advantage of wireless features like StreetPass to bring friends around the world into the adventure. With StreetPass or a wireless Internet connection, players can borrow job levels and abilities from friends who also own the game. They can also invite a friend into battle to attack for one move. By summoning a powerful friend, the tide of battle can quickly turn, maybe even deciding the difference between victory and defeat.”

I love streetpass! I actually get a lot of streetpasses since my mom and dad both have a 3DS. This sounds like a great use of streetpass, especially being able to borrow job levels and abilities.
