More Great DLC from Bethesda: Elder Scrolls Online
It’s been a long while since the Elder Scrolls Online launched on PC, and even less time that the game has been available on console. However, Bethesda continues to show support for the game well after launch, and from our perspective, it keeps us playing. As a reviewer, a ton of video games come through my front doors on a weekly basis. Some get played, review, and ‘dumped’ to never – or basically never – be touched again. This hasn’t been the case with Elder Scrolls Online. This is a game that gets played weekly in my home, and all of this added DLC just helps justify the amount of time I’ve spent with the game.
In the latest DLC, Bethesda has added the Thieves Guild to the game, and also introduced a somewhat different stealth mechanic. Once you’ve loaded up the DLC, you will be directed via various dialogue options to a somewhat secluded harbour where you will set sail for an ocean side manor. Your job: steal a valuable skull from the manor and get out alive. Seems easy enough, but Bethesda has added a little something extra to make sure this wasn’t your traditional stash and run: a stealth mechanic. Sure, we are use to clicking in the right stick and sneaking around – the amount of armour or type has an affect here – but now something new has been introduced. Now there is legitimate stealth options, as in here is the person you are trying to avoid, stay out of their line of sigh (indicated by a blue circle around the guard). Worried you might get seen? Why not stash yourself in a nearby basket to hide. Let the guard pass, and move on your way.
It’s not overly difficult to move around the manor courtyard, and the first quest took me less than 20 minutes to complete. However, it is a bit different, and I like that. Once you complete the opening quest and realize there is an organization hell bent on shutting down the thieves guild, you are taken to a whole new city to explore. Once there, you will get a very ‘Middle Eastern” vibe from the city. People are walking around with head coverings to keep out the dust and sand, and you will come across more than a few camels. I think this is a very unique setting that hasn’t been utilized in any Elder Scrolls titles in the past. For myself, this is just added value to the Thieves Guild DLC.
I have not completed all the side quests revolving around the Thieves Guild, but so far I’m really enjoying myself. The DLC offers new pets, new regions to explore, and new items to find. The quest line is engaging enough to keep you pushing forward, and the items you get for finishing these quests are often very unique. If you are dying to get more content for the Elder Scrolls Online, I cannot recommend the Thieves Guild DLC enough!
