The Order: 1886 Visuals Detailed
There’s a lot of excitement about The Order: 1886, a game that was briefly teased at last years E3 and which has only had a splattering of information since. The supernatural Victorian title was earlier this week revealed to be a single-player experience, with no additional social or multiplayer features. Yesterday Andrea Passino revealed some details on the visual features of the game.
Andrea Pessino, founder of Ready at Dawn, took to Twitter to discuss why the game looks the way it does, and why they’ve chosen 30FPS over 60FPS.
@Desmio not set in stone yet, but we do run 4xMSAA which looks spectacular! x800 with AA looks MUCH better than x1080 without 🙂

@Desmio to be clear, x800 with 4xMSAA needs more bandwidth than x1080 would, so 1080 no MS would be cheaper

@visteps the aspect ratio is a core artistic choice (frame, FOV, etc), added performance is a bonus but nowhere near crucial

@visteps I very much doubt that vision is going to change at this point. The game is built around it. 🙂

In layman’s terms, this means that Ready at Dawn are building a certain sort of filmic atmosphere with The Order, an atmosphere best supported by a certain visual style. Those that are obsessed with 1080p and 60FPS might feel underwhelmed by the announcement. As Pessino says though, there current build is in no way less tech-intense than it would be otherwise, especially because of that anti-aliasing.
