Dualshock 4 Light Causes Drama

playstation4-wireless-controller-4_900x540

The Dualshock 4 has a great big light on it. It was one of the first things announced about the controller and there are basically three functions behind it. You can differentiate between players, it interacts with the camera and, in certain games, it’s utilized by devs as a kind of secondary output. Killzone, for instance, shows your health status via this little light. Suddenly, people are asking why any of this matters, and are begging Sony to let them turn it off.

In one way, it’s quite understandable. As someone with a camera, a fiancée and a copy of Killzone, I’ve seen everything the light has to offer and it doesn’t bother me too much. A PS4 owner without a camera, who doesn’t have anyone to game with and who hasn’t yet played a game with light function (or who wasn’t impressed by what they saw) might question why they need such a power drain.

A few weeks ago, after being asked if an option to switch off the light would ever be patched in, Shuhei Yoshida said it wasn’t going to happen. This made some people quite angry, but what more was there to say? Today someone has asked if there’ll ever be a chance to at least dim the light, so that the reflection isn’t bothering gameplay.

This still garnered a ton of questions, complaints and vulgarities, but at least those angry about the light might get some sort of solution in the coming weeks and months.
