inFAMOUS: Second Son Could Have Been Something New
Sony have done quite a good job of stuffing a few familiar faces onto the PlayStation 4 at or close to launch. The Uncharted teaser has everybody chatting, while Killzone came out to strong fan reaction. inFAMOUS: Second Son is the next big AAA release, but it almost didn’t happen. A Sucker Punch rep today said that they were considering building an entirely new IP altogether.
@WTFBOOM3 sure that was on the table too. But, in the end, the opportunity to make a brand new hero, story, powers, etc was exciting!

In many ways, that kind of makes up a new game in its own right. Sure, there’s still going to be elements of earlier inFAMOUS games in there, but so long as there are new locations, characters, techniques, moves and powers, exactly what about it feels old. Outside of the logo and brand, this could have been a different game anyway.
Still, the thought of a new IP is quite interesting. Sucker Punch have a history of making great Sony titles, and given that ‘open world’ seems like the buzzword this gen, they could really thrive by doing something new and exciting. Perhaps, once inFAMOUS: Second Son is done, they’ll look elsewhere.
