PS3 Users Locked Offline after Forced Password Reset
Sony have reset an amount of EU PlayStation Network passwords, forcing users to choose something new before they can re-access their online accounts. That’s inconvenient enough, but they’ve done it on such a scale that there’s a huge backlog of people waiting for password change emails, and Sony has no idea when they’ll be caught up.
A customer service rep told GamesReviews earlier today that he’d been told to tell people to just keep trying if password change emails didn’t arrive. Usually sent within 24 hours, he wouldn’t commit to how long this new batch of emails would take to be sent through. Although they can change several things on their side, their lost password service goes through the same server as the user-based one, and calling them will not speed up the process. As more people find themselves in need of a password change over the next week, things are likely to get worse before they get better.
This means there are a number of people who, through no fault of their own, can’t access their accounts, the PlayStation store or play online games. There’s no simple solution to this problem, outside of just waiting and hoping for the best.
If you’re worried about not having access to accounts with credit card details attached, those can be deleted over the phone. For contact details for your local area, check this website.
