Cityville to Close
Zynga’s hugely popular CityVille, once one of Facebook’s favourite games, will close at the end of next month.
From an email sent out by the company:
Dear Citizens,CityVille will be shutting down on April 30, 2015.Thank you for supporting CityVille and for joining us on our city building journey. If you currently have coins or cash in your CityVille account, you can use them to access the game’s current content until April 30, 2015.As a reward for being a loyal CityVille player, we have a special thank you gift for you in either FarmVille 2 or CastleVille Legends.Log into CityVille to choose which game you would like to receive your special thank you gift in.Note: You must have an existing account in the game you wish to receive the thank you gift. If you do not have an account in one of these games, but want to start playing, please create your account before requesting your gift.
At its height, Cityville saw tens of millions of players, and was popular enough to have its own version of Monopoly.
This appears to have come about as a result of changing the way games work on Facebook. Zynga has decided not to port their older games to the new system, meaning that Cityville is just one of ten titles that could be removed from the social media platform.
