VLC Could Come to Xbox One
One of the most popular media players on PC, VLC, could make the jump to Xbox One.
Able to play the majority of file types, VLC is a popular and free alternative to Windows Media Player. Thanks to Microsoft’s Universal App initiative, which gives developers the choice to use the same code across a variety of devices. This includes Windows Phones and VLC.
With the release of a Windows Phone version of VLC, developer Thomas Nigro hinted at the idea of an Xbox One edition being released.
To sum up: Universal App mean a possible XBOX One release, DLNA and SMB will be available, translations will also come in several languages

For casual media users, this probably seems like an unneeded release. For heavy downloaders with hard drives full of “good clean family entertainment,” this could be the choice between PlayStation and Xbox.
VLC began as an academic project in 1996 and, over the last 20 years, has become the media player of choice for many because of its high rate of compatibility and usually regular updates. It supports dozens of music and video formats.
The media player also made a return to iOS today, and is available on Android device.
